My baby is turning one soon and I couldn’t be more proud of his little achievements and discoveries. His sweet smiles brighten up my days, his voice is music to my ears every time he says “ma-ma”. Sometimes, I’d like to think he’s singing when I heard him mumbling a long tune while he’s listening to nursery rhymes. He loves listening to music. I noticed he likes Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons a lot and it sets him to sleep by himself most of the time. Future musician, eh?
He crawls and rolls in his playpen and pulls himself up to reach everything he can. He always enjoys going outside and look around. He also loves to sit and eat with us during mealtime.
And lately, I realized his behavior is changing as he’s asserting his independence while he’s starting to discover his individuality. No wonder, toddlerhood is fast approaching and there’s so many discoveries and explorations coming his way. I could tell my contradictory baby is getting ready to toddlerhood with some signs I’m going to mention below.
3 Signs your baby is asserting his independence
He is pushing you away
When he doesn’t want something or what you are giving him, he may push you away. He may mean to say “I don’t want to cuddle right now, mommy.”, or he may mean “I don’t want to wear that shirt, mommy!” when you’re trying to dress him up. He is starting to send you a message of his likes and dislikes as he’s also starting to discover his own likings. So when my baby Cody is trying to push me away even when I’m carrying him, I could think that he may just want me to bring him out because he wants to be the one to open the door! But he’s too little to do that, it takes ages before he can do it until I insist opening it.
Baby @imcodybear in red, wearing the onesies I got from @patpatshopping ..crawling, and rolling in the bed..But when he sensed I dressed him up cos we’re going out, he will do anything he can to reach the door cos he wants to be the one who opens up the door for mommy. Apparently, he can’t do it without my help😊😅. . Learn more about my baby’s transition to toddlerhood on my blog( JhemArzaga.com) and get a chance to win the “Welcome to Toddlerhood kit” giveaway! He hate being held
There were times when your baby hate being held on your lap and just want to wriggle away. With my baby boy, he could mean he wants to sit by himself or he could mean he wants to have his little feet touch the floor and walk with my guidance.
Sometimes, he is just trying to reach something, or insist his desire to get it even if it’s out of his reach. Because he is starting to discover his independence, he would want to do it alone. Just like Cody bear, he is very persistent when he want to get and reach something.
He’s trying to fill his mouth with food
During mealtime, he is probably trying to spoon some of his food into his mouth. Or he could be enjoying picking up his foods with his tiny fingers and feed himself. They could be enjoying the fun of putting their food into their mouth, but with my baby Cody, I worry if he’s getting enough nutrients he needs because it always seems like he have more fun playing with his food than putting them in his mouth. And that’s where the Stage 3 Gerber Good Start Toddler drink comes to the rescue!
I’m looking forward to giving this toddler drink to my baby Cody bear when he turns 1 soon. I bet you also want your toddler to receive enough nutrition to support his growing body and independence, the Stage 3 Gerber Good Start Toddler Drink is worth the try.
As a mom, I always want to give my baby the best possible support I can. And with his growing independence now that he is entering the stage of toddlerhood, I always want to encourage him and help him build his confidence through these contradictions because it is essential to his individuality.
